Wind Turbine Installation

Our Process

Each project begins with careful vetting of any potential customer to ensure alignment with our ‘safety-first’ culture. On a more practical level, various risk assessments and feasibility studies are conducted to identify potential hazards. Once the vessel has been prepared and loaded with the necessary components (mobilization), the vessel proceeds to the project site to commence work. Generally, the Foundation work is performed separately from the remainder of the Turbine work and animations below are for illustration only.

Installation of the Foundation and Tower

Fixed turbines are constructed to absorb significant forces generated by both wind and waves with each installation requiring complex engineering to account for static and dynamic loads. While there are other methods to secure the turbine to the seabed, the Monopile is the most prevalent structure in use today.

The Monopile is raised by crane and hammered into the seabed.

Then, a safety-colored transitional piece is placed on top of the Monopile, leveled, and cemented into place.

Once the base is complete, the Tower is craned into position and assembled in place.

Installation of the Nacelle

Fixed turbines are constructed to absorb significant forces generated by both wind and waves with each installation requiring complex engineering to account for static and dynamic loads. While there are other methods to secure the turbine to the seabed, the Monopile is the most prevalent structure in use today.

The Nacelle is affixed to the tower through a sophisticated rotational ‘yaw’ system that allows the turbine to turn and face the wind as changes occur.

Once attached, all mechanical, communications, and environmental maintenance gear is tested and retested to ensure accuracy.

Installation of the Blades

Once the Nacelle is lifted into place and connected, the blades are attached to the Nacelle.

Using either a Blade Dragon Yoke or a Boom Lock, the blades are held steady, seated, and bolted.

For the majority of modern installations, the blades are secured individually to the Nacelle.
